Police Brutalize, Dismantle Occupy Oakland Camp
This morning at 5am over 500 police in riot gear from cities all over central California brutally attacked the Occupy Oakland encampment at 14th & Broadway. The police attacked the peaceful protest with flash grenades, tear gas, and rubber bullets after moving in with armored vehicles. Apparently the media was not allowed in to document this repression, and the police established barricades as far apart as 11th and 17th. Over 70 people were arrested and the camp gear was destroyed and/or stolen by the riot police.
Flash grenades, tear gas, and rubber bullets are completely unacceptable under the circumstances. Peaceful protesters should not be met with such disgusting treatment. Shame! shame! shame!

The bart policeman who shot Oscar Grant was sentenced to 2 years in prison today, when he should have been charged for 2nd degree murder and given 20-life. There are at least 5 cops on each corner in downtown Oakland right now a few blocks from where I live. They’re assuming that riots are going to break out. I hope they do.
I’m at a loss for words right now.

this is such fucking bullshit. There are people starving, dying, committing violent felonies, and the government & police are using our tax dollars on THIS kind of shit? How oblivious is our fucking country?
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies used phony Michigan medical-marijuana cards — created on a county computer — to trick state-approved medical marijuana providers into selling the drug to the cops, according to documents obtained by the Free Press from defense attorneys.
Days after the drug buys, county narcotics agents raided two medical-marijuana dispensaries Aug. 25 in Ferndale and Waterford.
“These officers were denied entrance on several occasions because of improper paperwork, but when they appeared with these cards, I had no way to check,” said Brian Vaughan, a doorman at the now closed Everybody’s Café dispensary in Waterford, who is charged with multiple drug violations…“They’re using people like us as victims in this and they’re destroying our businesses and our lives,” William Teichman, 50, of Waterford said.
